Biography
Born in Bristol, the son of a bank clerk, Lloyd Jones trained at the Salisbury College of Art and, in 1959, the Chelsea College where he found a strong champion in its Principal, Lawrence Gowing, and where he taught from 1961-1964. During this period, he gained a Boise Travelling Scholarship to Sweden, a Gulbenkian Purchase Award and in 1965 held his first one-man show with the New Art Club in London. At this point, Lloyd Jones was emerging as a potentially influential abstractionist. In the 1970's, he threw this over to concentrate on performance and installation shows with Michael Upton and later on more figurative work. Examples of Lloyd Jones' abstract work are held by the Gulbenkian Foundation and the Government Art Collection. |
