Biography
Mayo studied at the Glasgow School of Art and thereafter taught in schools in western Scotland and Stirlingshire. Following retirement, he has devoted himself to painting full-time. He tends to work in a mix of watercolour, gouache and oil on paper. His style can be quirky rather like the man himself and this in truth is one of its delights. He is abstract with sudden spurts of realism and he is creative in his use of colour. He severely rations those who exhibit his work but perhaps because of this he has gained in recent years a small, almost cult following throughout the UK. |
