Biography
Born in Hartlepool, County Durham, Cockrill studied at Wrexham School of Art (1960) and University of Reading (1961-64). Until 1982 he lectured at Liverpool School of Art and within Faculty of Art at Liverpool Polytechnic. He moved to London, becoming tutor in the Royal College, Central School and St Martins. Elected RA in 1999, he was appointed Keeper to the Royal Academy schools in 2005. Since 1990, Cockrill has built an international reputation as an intellectual abstractionist. Retrospectives were held by the Walker Gallery, Liverpool (1995) and the Royal West of England Academy (1998). He has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in UK, New York, Sydney, Paris and Dusseldorf. |
