Biography
Born 1903 London, studied at Central School of Arts and Crafts, Royal Academy Schools and from 1927-30 under Sir William Rothenstein at the Royal College of Art. Travelled widely in Europe and the US in the early '30's and in 1932 executed murals in Toynbee Hall. Later taught at St Martin's School of Art, Morley College and with Workers' Educational Association in east London. An excellent draughtsman, he was known for a strongly expressionist style, using bold colour with rhythmic lines and simplified forms. He exhibited widely and his works are held in numerous private collections as well as the Ben Uri Gallery's permanent collection in London. |
